Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how the Scott Joyce Photography website and app handle information. The short version: we do not collect personal information, we do not use advertising, and we do not track you. We use privacy-friendly, anonymised, self-hosted analytics to understand overall usage.

What we don’t collect. We don’t collect personal information; we don’t require an account, name, email address or sign-in; we don’t use advertising or any third-party advertising or tracking networks; we don’t use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and we don’t track you across other apps or websites; and we don’t access your contacts, photos, location, camera, microphone or motion-activity data.

Analytics (anonymised, self-hosted). To understand how the website and app are used overall — which galleries and pages are popular — we use Matomo, an analytics tool we host ourselves on our own server. We have configured it for privacy: no cookies are used, and IP addresses are anonymised before storage.

We collect only aggregate usage data such as page or screen views and a few anonymous interaction events (for example, a gallery being opened or the search being used). This is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. The data stays on our own server, is not sold or shared, and involves no third-party advertising or tracking networks.

Information processed to show you content. As with any website, our web server may automatically record ordinary technical request information (such as your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and basic device or app details) in its logs, used only to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service. The app also sends your device’s preferred language (English or German) so it can show content in the right language.

Information stored on your device. Downloaded images and content are cached locally on your device to keep things fast; this stays on your device and is removed when you delete the app. The app also stores a random, anonymous identifier (not derived from any device identifier) so repeat visits can be counted as one anonymous visitor.

Notifications. If you turn on notifications, the app registers a notification token so we can let you know when new galleries are added. On iPhone and iPad this uses Apple’s Push Notification service; on Android it uses Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging. The token identifies your device only for delivering these notifications — it is not linked to your identity, is not used to track you, and is removed when you turn notifications off or uninstall the app.

Children’s privacy. We do not collect personal information from anyone, including children. There are no accounts, messaging or user-generated content.

Changes. If our data practices change, we will update this policy (and the app’s App Store privacy information) before the change takes effect.
